I am at war. The voices in my head struggle to be heard.
They bicker until a decision is made and then they start all
over again. Will safety and comfort win over the voice of
danger and excitement? The need to embrace the new keeps
on shouting.
My creativity comes from this conflict and change.
I explore the relationship between thoughts, experiences
and actions in my external and my internal world. What
I’m seeing and what I‘m thinking come together to form
the content of my work. For example “Waiting” captures
a moment of change. The beauty of a summer’s day is
smashed by the thought of my children being so far away.
This contrast of emotion was startling. “Waiting” explores
that contradiction of peace and conflict—a “blue” dog wags
its tail, harsh light fragments the landscape, parts of the
landscape are more literal, others more abstract and distant.
Each new thought may change our perception of reality.
I paint my reality, the fusion of thought and vision that
becomes my (our) world.
A painting has its own story of the seen and the unseen.
My story and yours may be completely different but the need
to connect the dots is universal.
I paint with humour, fear, love, doubt and all the other qualities
that make us what we are. Complicated.
